Why in a steel frame structure is more economic to have rectangular grid for laying out of beams and columns?

Because this type of structure has been in use for so long it is a known constant. Computer models have been proved to be accurate and therefore and structure using this model can be evaluated and certified very quickly.

Having said that the real cost involved in structures using wave forms and variable geometry cost more because they take longer to design and computer model to prove their structural integrity. Also because they use non standard iron forms they are more expensive to produce.
